Richard Stockton State College

A public college located in Pomona, New Jersey, Stockton College started its first academic year in September 1971. Named for one of New Jersey’s signers of the Declaration of Independence, the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey is situated near shore resorts in the southern part of the state. Housed within the Pinelands National Reserve, this 2,000 acre campus is accessible to major metropolitan areas such as Atlantic City, Philadelphia and New York City. Respectively, the cities are 20 minutes, one hour and two hours away from this New Jersey institution of higher education. Stockton College’s motto is “an environment for excellence”.

 

Stockton College is an educational institution for the arts, sciences and professional studies and provides learning on the undergraduate and graduate academic levels. The seven schools of learning at Stockton for undergraduates are: Arts and Humanities, Business, Education, General Studies, Health Sciences, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. Students with exceptional high school academic achievements are invited to apply to Stockton’s Honors Program.

As part of the college’s academic experience, there are opportunities for participation in undergraduate research projects, internships and study abroad programs. For graduate and continuing education the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies is available. Stockton offers the following degrees: BA, BFA, BS, BSN, MA, MBA, MS, MSN, MSW, PSM and DPT.

Accreditations and Rankings
The college’s overall accreditation is from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Specific accreditations have been obtained for the following programs: Social Work, Teacher Education, Nursing, Chemistry, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. Also the Environmental Health track and the Health Administration track of the Public Health Program have received accreditation. U.S. News & World Report has ranked Stockton as one of the Best Universities/Master’s in the North in 2010.

From the Princeton Review, Stockton has been designated a “highly selective college”. On a program level, both the Environmental Studies and the Marine Science programs were selected for entry into the Education for the Earth: A Guide to Top Environmental Studies Programs.

Admissions and Finances
Nine different types of admissions are available at Stockton College. They range from freshman to international to graduate students. Requirements and deadlines are different for the various admission types, but usually include submitting a fee, academic credentials and recommendations. Since Stockton College is a state school, the amount of tuition a student pays is determined by an in state or out of state residency status. Out of state students pay approximately 1.8 times the tuition than do in state students.

Other college fees, such as room and board, are the same for all students. Stockton offers scholarships to incoming freshmen and transfer student who meet certain academic standings. There are also Stockton Foundation Scholarships for which undergraduates, transfer and graduate students may apply. Grants and loans are also available for eligible students through the Financial Aid Office.

Campus Life
Living on campus, students have a choice of either apartments or residence halls for their residential experience. Although there are different housing lifestyles within these residences, they are all completely furnished and computer wired. Stockton College is a NCCA Division III member and supports over a dozen intercollegiate sports, including basketball, cross country, soccer and track & field. The school colors are black, Columbia blue and white and the teams are known as the Ospreys.

There are also opportunities to participate in athletics on the club sports (competitive or non-competitive activities) or the intramural levels. Stockton College also offers students a cultural life through the Performing Arts Center and Noyes Museum of Art, along with visiting writers and series lecturers.
